Processed snacks

You may have heard about this recent study linking highly processed food to weight gain. It was a unique study because the participants actually stayed in the research facility and all their meals and snacks were provided. What were the findings? People who consumed a highly processed diet experienced an increase in hunger hormones, ate 500 more calories per day, and gained weight. My takeaway: let’s rethink quick breakfast, lunches, and snacks for kids where they are likely to eat more processed foods. I love helping families find more nutritious choices. Here’s a good summary article from the New York Times which includes pictures of what the participants ate.
